Photo Inspiration: Great Ocean Evening

One of the joys of photographing in low light is that you never quite know what you will end up with when you press the shutter. A long exposure will allow the camera to capture colour and movement in a way that the human eye just can't see. I took plenty of shots at that location but I chose this one because I particularly liked how the long exposure showed the shape of the waves breaking around the cliff and along the shore, the gorgeous light across the water and the deepening sky just allowing a few stars to peek out.

And yes, I have worked it up in Lightroom, to really make the image shine. There are two aspects to digital photography - capture and post-processing. We have well and truly moved on from the days of believing you only have to get it right in camera, and anything else is "cheating". Yes, I had to get the original RAW exposure, framing, etc, right in camera, but if I hadn't post-processed, I wouldn't have given the image the attention it deserves and allow it to be fully developed.

How do you feel about post-processing? Let me know in the comments below...

Róza - Thank you! I love it when an image can take you someplace else...

Mary-Ellen - Whichever way you achieve it, this image takes me right into the 'feel and sound' of being in that special place on our amazing coast. I'm taken into the seascape just as if I was standing there taking in the ocean breezes. Stunning!
